YIN YOGA is an ancient form of yoga originated in China and is derived from the Chinese tradition of TAOISM.
The universe is comprised of both yin and yang qualities. Most of the practises in yoga are heat building which means they are YANG in quality. While YIN yoga compliments or balances the yang qualities within us. This means that yin yoga is a quiet, restorative practice that focuses on expanding and nourishing the deep connective tissues of the body, specifically the ligaments and tendons. Stretching these tissues can bring healing to areas of chronic injury, especially involving the spine and hips. So this quiet, meditative practice incorporates long hold, floor based stretches, calming breathing techniques & releases tension from both mind and body. We work with the breath to stretch and open areas of the body that have become blocked, boost blood flow to the spine and pelvis which improves our mobility (improving each joints range of motion).
